Fed govt to draw up population strategy

April 4, 2010 by admin

The federal government will respond to concerns Australia is marching towards an unsustainable population by drawing up a strategy that first considers the benefits of growth. Tony Burke will be appointed as Australia's first population minister and will draw up a strategy on how to support the growing population and its effect on infrastructure and services, housing, congestion, the environment, agriculture and water. [...] Opposition Leader Tony Abbott meanwhile used the appointment to attack the government's approach to the asylum seeker problem. "You can't have a population policy without also having a border protection policy," he told reporters in Sydney. "If you can't control your borders, you can't sustain your population." read more

Australians don't want more people - poll

March 1, 2010 by admin

(Courier Mail) THE public has rejected plans to massively boost Australia's population. The federal government wants to increase the population from 22 million to 35 million by 2050, largely through immigration. But a poll has found three-quarters of respondents think Australia does not have the services or infrastructure to cope with more people. More than 60 per cent wanted immigration slowed. [..] The government wants to boost the population because it means more young taxpayers to pay for the high costs of an ageing population. read more

There's truth is in that last quoted sentence. So why aren't Australian young people breeding as much any more? Our Australian population rate is below the 2.0 replacement level at 1.92. The Anglo-Celtic British Australian culture are sitting in front of the PlayStation learning how to kill, watching MTV noise videos, or at work 12 hours a day, seven days a week saving up to buy party drugs for Saturday night. Kiwi and Muslim immigrant woman seem to be able to stay at home and have six+ children ok, so why can't the other Australian woman do the same? What is a cougar? The brain washing starts at the boob tube -- Get rid of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, The Worst Witch, and those bloody M.A.S.H repeats. If we have to watch American trash all the time, at least put the 'The Walton's series back on that promotes large 12+ families. Bring back drive-in movies, roller skating rings and create nice hilltop parking spots for HZ Holden panel vans. (all extinct creatures on the Gold Coast) The bloody insurance industry is partly to blame for making courting venues to expensive to keep open. The country needs reform, and it needs it now! Hell, I'm sounding like a bloody conservative over simplifying things. My name is Rodney Freeman, and I'm going to bed to do my part for the country.

Housing affordability plunges

February 22, 2010 by admin

New Homes(SMH) Soaring house prices, rising interest rates and a winding back of the first homeowners grant all contributed to housing affordability taking a nose-dive at the end of 2009. The deterioration was widespread in all capital cities and regional areas, with the largest falls recorded in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra, according to a Housing Industry Association (HIA)/Commonwealth Bank of Australia survey. The association is forecasting a moderate housing recovery in 2010 with about 152,000 dwelling starts. But that's still below the 190,000 required to keep pace with Australia's population growth. [..] "Without the required new home building to keep up with underlying requirements, house prices and rents are expected to continue pushing upwards through 2010," Mr [senior economist Ben] Phillips said. read more

Postpone population growth, says Abbott

February 10, 2010 by admin

(SMH) Australia's population growth should be stalled until the federal government builds the country better infrastructure, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says. The federal government's latest intergenerational report, released on Monday, predicted Australia's population would reach 36 million by 2050. Mr Abbott said infrastructure had to be built to cope with more people before any significant growth was allowed to occur. "I am in favour of an Australia which counts for more in the world, so I am instinctively in favour of more Australians," he told reporters on Tuesday. "But it's got to be sustainable." read more

We're left wondering how Abbott would stall Australian "population growth". We're guessing he's looking to cut back on immigration? If so, he's now agreeing with the polices of a former Senator he once stood against.
