Factory site to become Sydney village

(SMH) The Sydney site where thousands of Australian toasters, kettles and lawnmowers were made will soon play home to a massive residential redevelopment. The NSW government on Thursday announced approval for the first stage of redevelopment of the former Sunbeam and Victa factories at Campsie, in Sydney's southwest. read more

Isn't it just dandy knowing those villagers will be buying new toasters and lawn mowers from the same foreign hands that forced Australian factories to close and vacate. A site we bumped into today called Buy Australian Made is worth a looksee.

Call for industry to reveal use of toxic insulation

Formaldehyde(SMH) ENVIRONMENT Minister Peter Garrett has urged the insulation industry to come forward with details of cheap imported insulation products said to contain a toxic chemical. Mr Garrett, said Australian standards applied to all insulation materials and there was no provision for the use of any product that failed to meet those requirements. He had discussed with the industry the issue of imported polyester insulation said to contain high levels of formaldehyde. read more

Govt can't put figure on stimulus spend

(SMH) The federal government can't say how much of its $42 billion economic stimulus has been spent or remains uncommitted.
