(SMH) Australia's population growth should be stalled until the federal government builds the country better infrastructure, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says. The federal government's latest intergenerational report, released on Monday, predicted Australia's population would reach 36 million by 2050. Mr Abbott said infrastructure had to be built to cope with more people before any significant growth was allowed to occur. "I am in favour of an Australia which counts for more in the world, so I am instinctively in favour of more Australians," he told reporters on Tuesday. "But it's got to be sustainable." read more
