Damn! Aussies to be fined for swearing

(SMH) Australians may have a love of plain speaking but new laws are set to curtail some of their more colourful language with police issuing on-the-spot fines for obnoxious swearing. Offensive words and phrases? Where’s the Parliamentary approved offensive words and phrases list? It doesn’t exist! Courts and police are there to uphold laws, not write them. Next time a Lord in blue tries to kill you with a deadly tazer, make sure you only use literal words and phrases; “Hey, stop tazering me you copulating idiot”. Or, “Hey copper, copulate off”. Maybe the hired help have a good point? The trouble is new swear words crop up and would be added to the nonexistent speech crime dictionary. Define “offensive” — would it be “offensive” to tell a visiting NYC cop that “9/11 was an inside job”? What’s “offensive” to one person/group, isn’t always “offensive” to others.
